One of the first decisions you'll make when booking a taxi is which vehicle type actually suits your trip. It's not just about group size - route conditions, luggage volume and comfort preferences all factor in. Here's how we generally advise customers to think about it.

Sedan: Best For Small Groups on Good Roads

A sedan (like a Dzire or Etios) comfortably fits 4 passengers with moderate luggage, and works well on well-maintained highway routes like Gorakhpur-Ayodhya or Gorakhpur-Varanasi. For hill routes with winding roads, a sedan can feel less stable than a higher-clearance vehicle, though it remains the most economical option for smaller groups.

SUV: The Versatile Middle Option

An SUV (Ertiga, Innova or similar) fits 6-7 passengers and handles both highway and moderate hill routes comfortably, making it our most commonly recommended vehicle for Nepal border crossings and Char Dham approach drives. The higher ground clearance and more stable handling make a genuine difference on routes like Mugling's winding stretch toward Kathmandu.

Tempo Traveller: For Groups and Extended Trips

Once your group exceeds 7-8 people, a Tempo Traveller (available in 12, 20 or 26-seater configurations) becomes the practical choice, keeping everyone together rather than splitting across multiple vehicles. This matters especially for pilgrimage groups and family functions where staying together throughout the journey is part of the point.

Route-Specific Considerations

For the Char Dham Yatra circuit specifically, an SUV is generally preferred over a sedan given the sustained hill driving across all 10-12 days. For Nepal cross-border routes, either sedan or SUV works depending on group size, though SUVs handle the Mugling hill stretch more comfortably. For flat highway routes like Ayodhya or Varanasi, a sedan is perfectly adequate and more economical.

Luggage Considerations Often Overlooked

Group size isn't the only factor - a family of 4 with substantial luggage for a 10-day Char Dham trip may actually be better served by an SUV than a sedan, purely for luggage space, even though passenger count alone might suggest a sedan is sufficient. It's worth mentioning your luggage volume when booking, not just your passenger count.
