If You Only Have 4 Days

Jaipur alone is the sensible choice for a short trip, given its concentration of major sights - Amber Fort, City Palace, Hawa Mahal and Jantar Mantar - all within a manageable area. Trying to add a second city in just 4 days usually means rushing both rather than properly experiencing either.

If You Have a Week

Jaipur combined with either Udaipur or Jodhpur makes for a well-paced week-long trip. Udaipur pairs well if you want a mix of heritage and romantic lake scenery, while Jodhpur suits travellers more drawn to the Blue City's distinctive character and Mehrangarh Fort.

If You Have 9-12 Days

This is where the classic four-city circuit - Jaipur, Jodhpur, Jaisalmer and Udaipur - becomes genuinely feasible without excessive rushing. This circuit also allows for a proper overnight desert camp experience near Jaisalmer's Sam Sand Dunes, rather than a hurried day trip.

Jaipur is the most common starting point given typical arrival routes and its position relative to other cities, though the specific order can be adjusted based on your entry and exit points.
